Even as these first few weeks of Autumn have passed, the excitement of fall weather and big cozy sweaters is just beginning! We can’t get enough of that perfect combination of a cool breeze and the warm sun on your face and according to our very own Mousumi, New Mexico is the perfect Fall getaway for some beautiful weather and scenic outdoors. Mousumi traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico last Fall to visit a friend and has shared some great travel tips with us!
Adventure #1. Botanical Gardens – With such fantastic weather, the best place to be is outside! This is one of the first beautiful places I visited, and even better, these gardens are located very close to the Rio Grande!
Adventure #2. Cibola National Park & the Sandia Peak Tramway – Apparently this is the world’s longest tramway. The most beautiful time to go is around sunset and while you’re up there be sure to have an Irish coffee to warm you up. (Yes there’s a bar as a reward!)
Adventure #3. Hot Air Balloon Ride over the vast New Mexico Plains – We got up really early to head out with RainbowRyder.com. This was probably one of my favorite experiences during my trip to New Mexico. While I’ve always wanted to visit during the famous Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (www.balloonfiesta.com), it was still amazing to go up early with other ballooners. This is a must do (as long as you’re not afraid of heights). Afterwards we enjoyed champagne and donuts as the morning was just getting started!
Adventure #4. Santa Fe, New Mexico here we come! – Only an hour away from Albuquerque, Santa Fe is an art lover’s paradise. We started off with breakfast at the Body, an amazing little yoga studio, cafe and shop all in one.
Adventure #5. The Art Galleries of Santa Fe & Tea House Dessert – I loved all the architecture found in Santa Fe…Adobe Style! As a break to our gallery tour, we did a stop over at the Tea House on Canyon Road for some amazing tea and dessert.
Adventure #6. Santa Fe town square – It was fun walking around the town square with the markets, boot shops, the Cathedral Basilica and the festival we came upon. I loved seeing the intersection of San Francisco and Santa Fe.
Adventure #7. Ten Thousand Waves Spa – As an afternoon treat, we stopped by a must stop spot for some R&R. It’s a unique mountain spa Japanese style!
Adventure #8. Geronimo’s for Dinner – Since both of us were big time foodies, we stopped by Geronimo’s for an amazing culinary experience of wine and food.
Adventure #9. Horseback riding at the Broken Saddle – This was the other major highlight of my trip…horseback riding in the open hills of Cerrillos, New Mexico. It was a real treat as the owner took us out. Afterwards we stopped by this amazing little spot called the Holar for lunch. It was delicious Southwestern Soul type food. The best dessert was the chess game that I played after!
