Earlier this month, I ventured out for a 2 day trip to check out Fredericksburg, a local German town, an hour and a half from Austin. I wanted to share my top five places to visit on a road trip to Fredericksburg! Enjoy!
Full of local charm, stop by Thyme & Dough on your way through Dripping Springs for coffee and some amazing home made pastries. Their food also looked delicious. It’s a favorite spot for locals too, as they have a section where customers leave their personal coffee mugs!
On the way into Fredericksburg, stop by national award winning vineyard, GrapeCreek for some wine tasting. We had fun doing some flights of wine. They are also in the process of building a new Inn. http://grapecreek.com
While there are a ton of cute boutiques and restaurants lining Main Street, my favorite spot is a unique restaurant – cafe – store, called Vaudeville. Run by two partners, Richard and Jordan, they bring a unique elegance to the town. When you walk-in the main level, you’re treated by beautiful furniture, books, gifts and jewelry in their store. We went downstairs to their amazing cafe where everything we tasted was phenomenal. They also have a beautiful fine dining outdoor patio as well as a gallery on the top floor. http://www.vaudeville-living.
Nearby, explore the famous Enchanted Rock State National Park. We hiked to watch the sunset on the top. It was very meditative to the see the skyline from atop. http://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/enchanted-rock
One of the more charming places to stay is Barons Creekside. A lovely Swiss German was captivated by Fredericksburg and decided to build a series of unique and artistic log cabins in this Swiss / Texas Ranch. The owner brought over furniture, wood and art from his property in Switzerland and incorporates it with Texas style charm. I absolutely loved the Davos cabin!
